Environment Group

Like many areas of the Trust's work, the Environmental Group is able to call on great expertise. In order to help nurture a sustainable environment in Sleat the group's project are:

Bats
SNH have awarded £620for a study to look at the distribution, numbers and species of bats in Sleat. With the help of some specialist acoustic equipment parties of local bat hunters have surveyed individual properties and undertaken two drive rounds. Results show wide distribution of Pipstrelle bats.There was also an open bat talk evening in August.

Beach Clean
The group organised a Beach Clean at Camus Darach, Aird on 10 July 2010 where over 16 sacks of rubbish was collected.

Mink
Mink are a pest and are growing in numbers around the Sleat coast, destrpying ground enxting birds and the local hen stock. The group in undertaking a survey of mink in the area.

Carbon reduction
The group will endeavour to help the Trust achieve its targets in the Clean Sleat Project.

Local Planning and the Kilbeg Project
The group wil engage in and contribute to consultation relating to the Local Plan and the proposed Kilbeg Village development.

Wind Turbine
The group will assist Sleat Renewables with meeting the environmental impact studies for the wind turbine site at A’Mhoile.
